Yolande Offord

Clinical Psychologist

Yolande is a Clinical Psychologist with a passion for the field of Health Psychology which entails the understanding of how psychological, behavioural, and cultural factors contribute to physical health and illness.

Yolande hails from a small town in the Free State and after matriculating embarked on experiencing city life by initially studying a BCom degree at the University of Pretoria. She later entered the field of psychology after a career in Higher Education focused on communication and media studies.

She completed an Honours degree in Psychology at the University of the Witwatersrand, where her interest in health psychology was sparked. She then attained a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of the Western Cape, where she later instructed courses in health psychology as an external lecturer.

Yolande’s practical experience is extensive, working with adults in various settings within public and private healthcare. During her clinical internship at Valkenberg Hospital, Yolande completed rotations in the Alexandra Hospital, Groote Schuur Hospital, and the Female High Care Unit at Valkenberg.

She fulfilled her community service requirements at Lentegeur Psychiatric Hospital, offering individual and group therapy to inpatients, conducting assessments, training staff, and supervising students.

In 2022, Yolande co-founded Perspectives Psychology Group, a group psychology practice with a special focus on delivering health psychology services to hospitals in the Southern Suburbs of Cape Town. Yolande works mainly with adults in both a medical inpatient setting and in outpatient settings, offering personalised psychological care.

Further to her a focus on health psychology, Yolande also has an interest in maternal mental health and working with Neuro-diverse clients. Committed to creating a therapeutic environment, each client’s dignity is respected and restored. Her open-hearted approach ensures that her clients feel supported on their journey toward mental and emotional well-being.

Therapeutic approaches include both psychodynamic and behavioural approaches, such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, with the individual needs of the client being taken into consideration.

Yolande’s bilingual proficiency in English and Afrikaans enables her to connect with a broader range of clients.
